Pray, Serpent's Prey

Overview

An ancient predecessor of modern-day vampires casts its evil upon the peaceful Montana town of Bloomgarden circa 1980s, where high-schooler Chris Barrett, his friends, a mysterious old man and a self-righteous preacher must learn to deal with these formidable demons while wrestling with their inner ones. Celebrated as the author's first published work, this was also the first in a succession of early Nicholas Grabowsky horror-fantasies penned under the Randers name circa 1980s horror mass market paperbacks in the US and beyond. A small band of teenagers dying for a little something new. A smalltown preacher whose fiery sermons once had an entire population on its knees. A mysterious old man. It didn't take too long for Chris Barrett to realize that whatever it was his father brought home one night, it was unmistakably evil. And in the small Montana town, people started to become quite different almost overnight. They became twisted, malevolent abominations to God. Abominations with an unnatural hunger for flesh and blood. No one in the town had a prayer; for demons have no one to pray to.

Author Information

Nicholas Randers is an early pen name of horror author Nicholas Grabowsky (The Everborn, Halloween IV). He began writing this first novel in his high school math class, and when it was accepted for publishing by New York's Critic's Choice Paperbacks, he assumed at first that the name ""Grabowsky"" wouldn't go over well so he opened up an almanac, closed his eyes and placed a finger on a random page and his finger landed on the name ""Randers,"" and that sounded better. It was supposed to be the name his follow-up novel, Halloween IV, would be under until the publisher insisted he use his real name. Grabowsky also utilized the Randers name for subsequent works including The Rag Man. Nicholas Grabowsky has been hailed by fans of horror/fantasy throughout North and South America and Europe for popular novels such as the macabre aliens- among-us epic The Everborn, The Rag Man, Pray Serpent's Prey, Halloween IV (and its special edition), Red Wet Dirt and Diverse Tales, with a body of work extending to short stories, screenplays, poetry, songs and a wide variety of nonfiction. He was born in Southern California and spent his upbringing in and around the Anaheim and Los Angeles areas, where he studied acting and music. Aside from his writing career, he has been in the limelight as a radical gospel preacher and rock vocalist, teacher, lecturer and activist.Currently, Mr. Grabowsky is a resident of the Sacramento, California area, where he is at work on new and exciting novels and projects including The Sirens of Knowland, The Downwardens, an Everborn sequel and comic books, and is the founder and operator of Black Bed Sheet Books since 2008, publishers of horror fiction and related stuff.
