He was called from his childhood and majored in Old Testament literature and theology at the University of Edinburgh. He once served as Dean of the Hong Kong Baptist Theological Seminary, Provost and Professor of the Taiwan Baptist Theological Seminary, and Professor of Old Testament at the San Francisco Golden Gate Seminary. His lifelong theological writings and translations were abundant. A total of 135 books were published, and he was regarded as the most written theologian of contemporary Chinese.
