Pragmatics and Language Use

Overview

Language meaning is often shaped by context, intention, and shared understanding beyond literal expression. The study of pragmatics reveals how speakers use language to achieve communicative goals and interpret implied meanings. Pragmatics and Language Use examines concepts such as speech acts, implicature, deixis, and politeness theory. The book discusses how context influences interpretation and how meaning emerges dynamically in conversation. It also highlights crosscultural variations in pragmatic behavior. Integrating theoretical models with realworld dialogues, it provides readers with tools to analyze how language functions in social interaction.
