This book introduces the basic theory of Petri nets and then presents the most important properties of Petri nets relevant to manufacturing systems. The use of Petri nets and their propertiees are demonstrated and illustrated for the preliminary design, in other words the functional specifications, modelling and evaluation of manufacturing systems. The integration of Petri nets and their use in a modular approach for systems design are described in detail.
