OverviewPoor adherence is ubiquitous in medicine. Doctors prescribe medications, but patients don't always use them. While it is easy to blame non-adherent patients for treatment failures, there is much doctors can do to get our patients to use their medications better. We may even be able to achieve far better treatment outcomes through innovative ways of encouraging patients to use the treatments we have today than we could by developing new medications. In this book, Daniel Lewis and adherence researcher Steven R. Feldman examine the problem of adherence and provide numerous concrete, practical tools for improving patients' adherence behavior. This is not a theoretical tome; it is an easy to read, entertaining look at the many steps at which health care professionals can encourage better use of medications. Practical Ways to Improve Patient Adherence is an excellent resource book for physicians and allied health professionals whose patients have less than ideal treatment adherence. The book offers novel, potent ways to get patients to use their medications and improve the outcomes of treatment, tools a health care provider will use day in and day out. A medical education is not complete without a thorough understanding of the hurdles of poor adherence and what doctors can and should do about it.
