OverviewGrowing up in a staunch Catholic and traditional village on the island of Gozo, Malta, Victoria experienced what appeared to be a 'normal' childhood. At the age of thirty-five years, she found out that she had been carrying a highly traumatised inner child that she kept hidden from her own self. The subsequent journey of self-discovery is unique and inspirational as manifested in the diary entries. These provide the reader with a window into the chaotic inner world of a highly mentally disturbed person. And at the same time, they portray a beautiful mind as well as a Spirit that proved to be victorious over the power of darkness - including acute depression, anxiety attacks, obsessive thoughts and psychosomatic symptoms. Many times, Victoria reached the point of not only losing the battle but also the war against mental illness. Although her case is unique, it resonates with many people one way or another. Feelings of loneliness, alienation, abandonment, betrayal, rejection, shame, loss and fear are common to the human experience. Victoria's strong determination to find her real self as well as her passion to embark on an intensive study of herself gave her a strong purpose in life as she clawed her way through life as a wife, a mother of 2 children and an academic student while on the journey of self-discovery. The path to reconciliation and healing is also highly insightful. Dr Victoria Borg was an academic for many years, specialising in mental health across cultures. Her academic journey as an under- and post-graduate student was highly challenging. It was compounded by acute episodes of depression and anxiety as it coincided with her journey of self-discovery. In spite of this, she forged her way through and won a number of awards along the way. Currently, Victoria is serving her second term as an elected Councillor in Local government at the City of Brimbank, Melbourne, Australia.
