OverviewThe men and women of the Bible are indeed the same flawed beings we encounter every day at work and home...and in the mirror; their stories of disability and dysfunction are our stories. Such recognition means that God can use us as He used them. To accomplish this task, we will approach Scripture from the vantage point of different medical disciplines, each chapter beginning with a general consideration of medical evidence related to that discipline followed by an in-depth discussion of medical case(s) in Scripture who experienced such disorders. But as the book proceeds, the cases will become more complex, relying upon more and more disciplines for their understanding. In that sense, the chapters will build upon each other as their cases require medical knowledge across progressively more body systems if they are to be comprehended. Such a case-based approach will end with a discussion of the greatest public health disaster in history-the 10 plagues of Egypt. But complete understanding cannot end there; we must ask ourselves why God would use such medical afflictions to further His story. What overarching messages are there in this evolutionary tale of medical woe as medically-imperfect humans strive for righteousness despite (or because of) their afflictions?
