Born and home-schooled in California, Jerome was ever fascinated with Health and Nature, particularly Botany. He graduated summa cum laude with his bachelor's in Biology, valedictorian. In his third-year of medical school, this conservative young man first witnessed the world of Medicine, with its intense personalities and often astonishing vignettes. These experiences, which Muir viewed through fresh eyes and wry humor, continued as he earned his MD and completed residency in Surgery. He shared these stories with friends, who eagerly awaited each letter and in turn forwarded them to a wider audience. They were enjoyed by young people curious about a medical career, grown-ups intrigued by the inside look at medical education, and everyone entertained by colorful characters and dark medical humor.
