OverviewWhat happens at sea stays at sea. Not anymore. Read all about my port adventures across the world right here. Ten years as a Marine Engineer in the merchant Navy are summarised in this set of true short stories that I hope will both amuse and inform. From joining the Merchant Navy as a Cadet in 1974 and leaving with my Chief Engineers Certificate in 1984, I witnessed the decline of the British Merchant Fleet and the sale of ships to foreign owners. Despite this, the job was always exciting and fun. I have tried to capture the banter and spirit of it within these stories, which are funny, often bizarre, but amazingly all true. Spending ten years circumnavigating the globe by air and sea was a great experience, but seeing wonderful sights and, more importantly, meeting wonderful people was the real bonus of being a seafarer. These stories are not just about my fellow seafarers but also about the local people we met along the way. For those that have been to sea, this should jog some memories of your own adventures, but whether you have sailed the seas or simply rowed across your local pond, you will find amusement and an insight into the human psyche within these pages.
