Author Information

Rod Koon, a lifelong Tacoma resident, joined the Port of Tacoma in 1983. His 38-year port career included work in communications, public relations, marketing, and community relations. In 2018, the port's centennial year, the Tacoma Propeller Club named him Pierce County's Maritime Person of the Year for his invaluable contributions to the maritime industry and community. Many of the photographs featured in this book are from the Northwest Room of the Tacoma Public Library as well as rarely seen historic port images housed at the Washington State Archives.
