Overview

An inevitable consequence of the demographic transition and the shift to lower fertility and mortality has been the evolution in the age structure of the world population. Concerned by population ageing and a looming crisis, many Governments are promoting self-reliance in income security for older persons and greater family responsibility for providing care. This publication contains a collected set of papers that were presented at the Technical Meeting on Population Ageing and Living Arrangements of Older Persons.
