Overview

Read along with your child to spark conversations about Parkinson's disease. Making light of a difficult subject was intended to bring awareness and comfort to all ages. Relatable characters and traits help little hearts better understand what a loved one dealing with this disease may be feeling. Simple text and comparisons encourage a whimsical way for kids to find comfort over concern when in the company of someone with Parkinson's. Understanding that Parkinson's disease is much more than ""shaking"" is important for all parties to acknowledge for the sake of their loved ones. This is not an in-depth book on Parkinson's disease but instead a gentle reminder of how your loved one has little control over the changes taking place. Family members often become deflated and distant, accepting your loved one did not choose this version of themselves is important for all to recognize. I encourage additional research and education to avoid the unfortunate consequences of this difficult disease. I send love and patience to everyone affected by Parkinson's disease.

Author Information

Brycelyn is a mom of two and the author and illustrator of Pop Can't Hop. She found inspiration for this book when her own dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. While trying to adjust and also help her girls navigate the changes he was going through, she realized there was a need for more books to help children (and parents) navigate this difficult time. Her genuine hope is that she can help families, much like her own, understand that even though their loved ones seem distant, there is still so much love and life to be uncovered beyond Parkinson's disease.
