OverviewPompeii and Herculaneum are two essential sites for classical archaeology and ancient history. Since the excavations began in the 18th century, these sites have never ceased to amaze the world, giving us a glimpse into the daily life of the ancient Romans. Both have been a source of inspiration in art, literature, film, and other disciplines. The reception of these ancient cities has been (and its being) well studied by European specialists. For a long time it was thought that Spain and Latin America had been left out of the influence of these discoveries, but this idea has been dismantled thanks to the studies carried out in recent years, which have shown a very different picture. This volume is a good example of this, as it brings together a series of works that analyse how the discoveries in Campania were received and appropriated by Latin-American and Spanish societies.
