He received his undergraduate degree from Chiba University in 1975, and his Ph.D in Science from Kyoto University in 1988. From 2001 to 2017, he was a Professor of Applied Entomology at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, where he became an Emeritus Professor in 2019.
