The increase in androgens levels in women results in heavy periods or no menstrual periods, pelvic pain, excess facial and body hair, difficulty in getting pregnant, acne, etc. This set of symptoms may be termed as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and affects between 2-20% of women between the ages of 18 and 44.
