OverviewThe struggle against corruption remains one of the defining challenges of governance in our time. Across the world, but particularly in developing nations, the corrosion of public institutions by political corruption undermines the rule of law, weakens public trust, and erodes economic and social development. It is within this critical landscape that Political Integrity Model of Plea Bargains makes a timely and important intervention. Dr. Bob Osamor brings to this subject not only decades of experience as a legal scholar and practitioner, but also the insight of one who has witnessed first-hand the complexities of prosecutorial discretion and the delicate balance between efficiency and fairness in criminal justice systems. His work illuminates the vulnerabilities of plea-bargaining processes to abuse, particularly in high-stakes corruption cases where political influence often outweighs legal principle. What distinguishes this book is its constructive vision. Rather than simply diagnosing the problem, Dr. Osamor proposes the Political Integrity Model (PIM) - a practical and principled framework that reconciles the demands of efficient case resolution with the imperatives of justice, accountability, and due process. Grounded in comparative analysis and enriched by socio-legal and doctrinal methods, this model is both context-specific to Nigeria and adaptable to other jurisdictions facing similar challenges. This is a work of scholarship, but also of public service. It calls for a justice system that places integrity at the heart of prosecutorial decision-making, ensuring that plea bargains in corruption cases do not serve the interests of the powerful, but the broader public good.
