Table of ContentsReviewsSteinwand's Poland creates such a palpable vulnerability, we almost can feel the weight of a war-grey sky or the ways terrified screams can scratch a throat raw. But these poems also reveal the heft of the human spirit, its staying power, its bodies and its shadows. --Erica Dawson, author of When Rap Spoke Straight to God In the timeliest of poems, Kurt Steinwand's Poland offers the news, that yesterday is today, and cannot be forgotten. These are harrowing and essential poems, of lying and hiding and grieving--and singing!--to live, to survive in the face of a people's destruction. Steinwand has given us vital and uplifting poems, poems of deep meaning and dignity. --Alan Michael Parker, author of Christmas in July "Steinwand's Poland creates such a palpable vulnerability, we almost can feel the weight of a ""war-grey sky"" or the ways ""terrified screams"" can scratch a throat raw.
