He has participated in the discovery of over 100 species new to science and has published over 170 scientifi c papers, plus four other fi eld guides, including the best-selling Two Oceans - A Guide the Marine Life of Southern Africa and Field Guide to the Insects of South Africa. Mike Picker is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Cape Town. His research focus on insect diversity and ecology in South Africa has resulted in the discovery of the new insect order Mantophasmatodea and the world's first jumping cockroach. He has published 114 scientifi c papers and is senior author of the books Field Guide to Insects of South Africa and Alien & Invasive Animals - A South African Perspective.
