OverviewChristian tradition characterizes Satan as the enemy of God, a fallen angel who rebels against his maker, tempts Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, and brings sin into the world. In this biography of the feared religious figure, scholar Henry Ansgar Kelly seeks to show that this portrayal of Satan was actually invented and dispensed by the early founders of the Christian church. Revealing the original story of Satan as described in the New Testament, in which Satan was first sent to govern and test human beings, this analysis traces the path of Satan from treasonous angel to the devil he is known as today.
