OverviewIn September 2021, as a gift for his graduation from law school, I took my then 27-year-old son Jake to Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic to see the places where my grandparents were born and where our family dwelled for some three hundred years. This trip was life changing for both of us. It provided answers as well as new questions, both about how our ancestors came to Hungary and to their fate during the Shoah. It also provided the unexpected; acceptance and forgiveness for their fate, along with a deep understanding of the unique relationship of between Hungarian and Jewish cultures. Perhaps most important, I got to know my Jake as an adult, the man he'd become, and how proud I am to call him my son.
