Overview

Stop, before you read on. Watch this video with a child you love to get an inside glimpse of Plessy: https: //youtu.be/Vq_P94bhu48 Plessy had a secret. He was a black man with white skin, or rather, a white man with black blood. Sounds confusing? The year was 1892 when the simple man boarded a Louisiana train leading to his arrest, and eventually, a legal fight that would take him to the Supreme Court of the United States. Legal Kid's Court Cases Collection is only children's book collection teaching kids the law one case at a time.

ABOUT PROFESSOR ALLY When I was a classroom teacher, no unit was looked at without my students' fiery debates. Laws inspired them - laws under attack, ripping away at civil rights, questioning morality, tearing down basic human liberties - both in history and present day. As a lawyer, I enjoyed these heated discussions, after all I am a graduate of Howard University, School of Law - a school known for pioneering the Civil Rights Movement. I have worked for the U.S. Department of State overseas and worked on several key refugee cases, but the legal debates of my students electrified the universe. It was all about young minds making the connection and having a safe place to share their voice. When I became a parent, I naturally wanted to share my passion for the law and history with my son. Even as a toddler, he had questions about what was happening in this world. I started to dig. I would hunt in libraries, bookstores, and online for kid-friendly material to open his mind to the law. But, to my surprise, there was absolutely nothing. To be honest, I was totally disappointed. That is the very moment I made the decision to create what was not available for inquisitive young minds - a children's book collection breaking down the unique facts behind key court cases in history, many of which reached the greatest court in the land - the Supreme Court of the United States. Children need to be taught the principles of laws from an early age. They need to learn real examples of true heroes who took great risks to make groundbreaking legal reform. Law is a basic fundamental aspect of life in any society. But often seen as complex, law is not taught to children. My goal is to change that one case at a time. Watch this video to learn more why law should not be neglected in classrooms across the country: here Learn more about the law with Professor Ally and her dedicated mission to educate and excite kids about the law one case at a time at www.allisonmatulli.com or connect on Twitter @allisonmatulli.
