OverviewThe accumulation of plastics in coastal area is continuously increasing. We produce more and more amounts of garbage daily. Single use plastics or disposable plastics are accumulated in the marine environments. Single use plastics are effects our marine ecosystems. Single use plastics particles are broken down to produce smaller and smaller plastics particles. These small sized particles are called microplastics. Microplastics are harmfull to our health when we ingested through food chain. Exoposure to microplastics causes serious health problems like neurotoxicity, inflammation, genotoxicity, necrosis, cancers, leukemia, tissue damage, asthma, liver damage and many more problems. This book is helpful to schlors, scientists, readers, students, researchers, undergraduate, postgraduate students and interested people. This book consists of five chapters. The first chapter gives definition of monomer and polymers, plastics, biodegradation, and resins. The first chapter describes the classification of plastics, history of plastics, types of plastics, different types of thermoplastics, and application of plastics. The first chapter also gives additives and its causes serious health problems. The second chapter gives definition of microplastics, mesoplastics, nanoplastics, marine debris, nurdles, microbeads. The second chapter also describes sources and classification of microplastics, biography of professor Richard Thompson. The third chapter describes causes and effects of plastics pollution. The third chapter also describes how microplastics effects our marine ecosystems and birds. The fourth chapter discusses microplastics sampling process. The fourth chapter provides colourfull photograph and brief description of different types of nets like neuston net, manta net, plankton net, avani trawl net, bongo net which is used in microplastics sampling. The fifth chapter has a special mention on impacts of single use plastics. The fifth chapter also describes how to reduce plastics pollution.ContentsPrefaceExecutive SummaryChapter 1: Plastics: Discovery and Importance1.1 Monomers and Polymers1.2 Plastics1.3 Classification of Plastics1.4 Biodegradation1.5 What is Resins?1.6 History of Plastics1.7 Types of Plastics1.8 Types of Thermoplastics1.9 Additives1.10 Application of PlasticsChapter 2: Microplastics2.1 What are Microplastics2.2 Sources of Microplastics2.3 Classification of Microplastics2.4 Professor Richard Thompson2.5 What is Nanoplastics?2.6 What is Mesoplastics?2.7 What is Microfiber?2.8 Marine Debris2.9 What is Nurdles?3.0 What are Microbeads?Chapter 3: Effects of Marine Pollution3.1 Effects of Marine Pollution3.2 Causes of Plastic Pollution3.3 Effects of Plastics PollutionChapter 4: Microplastics Sampling4.1 Plastic Waste4.2 Microplastics Sampling4.3 Sampling of Microplastics4.4 Location4.5 Collection4.6 Objectives of Sampling4.7 Equipments4.8 Microplastics Sampling4.9 Draper: the Microplastics SensorChapter 5: Single Use Plastics: How to Reduce Plastics Pollution?5.1 Impacts of Single Use Plastics5.2 How to Reduce Plastics Pollution?5.3 Microbeads Bans5.4 Microbeads-Free Waters Act, 2015References Full Product DetailsAuthor: Anupam RajakPublisher: Independently Published Imprint: Independently Published Dimensions: Width: 15.20cm , Height: 0.90cm , Length: 22.90cm Weight: 0.254kg ISBN: 9781660428106ISBN 10: 1660428106 Pages: 132 Publication Date: 14 January 2020 Audience: General/trade , General Format: Paperback Publisher's Status: Active Availability: Available To Order We have confirmation that this item is in stock with the supplier.
