OverviewThis thesis examines the decision-making process relating to the placement of children and young people in care. The aim of this thesis is to raise awareness of the need for a respectful attitude towards the children concerned. The quantitative aspects are presented, the terminology of this process is explained, and, based on existing standards, the framework conditions for this process are explored and quality dimensions defined. The extent of possible participation by the children and young people concerned is central to this. The possible causes for out-of-home care are described. Experts' views on the practice of the decision-making process and previously concluded cases of out-of-home care are presented. The initial situation of the six children concerned at the time of out-of-home care is outlined, and the subjective views of all stakeholders involved in the events are then retrospectively gathered. The qualitative data collected is then related to the identified quality dimensions, providing a picture of which programmatic intentions have been realised in practice.
