The twelve essays in this fascinating collection range broadly over time, covering the period from early modern era to the early twenty first century. Their geographical scope is also impressive, including Europe, north and south America, Australia, north and South Africa and the far east, the 'old' and the 'new' worlds. David Cesarani is Research Professor at Royal Holloway, University of London. His many publications include (ed.) Jews and Port Cities 1590-1990 (2006) and Eichmann: His Life and Crimes (2004). Tony Kushner is Professor of History and Director of the Parkes Institute, University of Southampton. His recent publications include Remembering Refugees: Then and Now (2006) and Anglo-Jewry since 1066 (2009). Milton Shain is Professor in the Department of Historical Studies and Director of the Isaac and Jessie Kaplan Centre for Jewish Studies and Research at the University of Cape Town. He has published widely in the field of South African Jewish history, most recently (with Richard Mendelsohn), The Jews in South Africa. An Illustrated History (2008).
