Pippa's Journey: Tail-Wagging Tales of Rescue Dogs

Overview

When award winning outdoors writer Robert Montgomery was ready for another canine companion following the death of his beloved Ursa, he went to a no-kill shelter to adopt a pup. None were available. Saddened, he almost went home empty-handed. Instead, he decided to take a chance. He chose a medium-size, mixed breed dog who spent the first two years of her life at the shelter and seemed destined to live out her days there. In adopting Pippa, Montgomery thought he knew what to expect, since almost everything in the outside world would be new to her. But he didn't know the half of it. In the following weeks, months, and years he and Pippa learned many things together--and they're still learning. Pippa knew nothing of the outside world. She had never bonded with anyone and didn't know how to love, or be loved. She didn't understand how to play or what it meant to be free to run and run, and then collapse in green grass to roll and moan in life-affirming ecstasy. Early in their relationship, Pippa's running led to heartbreak and near tragedy. Through the kindness of strangers, a miracle became the pivotal point in helping Pippa learn to trust and love. In part two of Pippa's Journey, Robert invited other authors to share their stories. Each of these tales celebrates the tangible and intangible blessings of loving lost, abandoned, and homeless dogs who rescue us. As a bonus, Robert also includes valuable information about shelters, adopting dogs, and bonding with a new canine friend. Heartwarming, insightful, and sometimes funny, the moving and beautifully crafted stories in Pippa's Journey remind us that dogs are true friends who give unconditional warmth, love, joy, and compassion.

Reviews

Could not put it down from first opening the cover. It jogged my grey matter and brought back long forgotten fun memories and emotions of growing up in mid- America. It had me laughing out loud throughout! It made me ponder old feelings and brought back precious memories. --- Amazon review of Under the Bed This book was amazing--- perfect summer reading for adults and kids alike! I read it first and enjoyed it and then we read it as a family at bedtime with our 7-year-old, taking turns reading chapters. His favorite chapter was about the toads escaping and he is still giggling about some of the other stories too. --- Amazon review of Fish, Frogs, and Fireflies The book reminds us to value each moment of our lives, and that time spent fishing is time well spent. Thank you, Mr. Montgomery, for sharing the wonderful journey of your fishing adventures as well as bringing a sweet smile in remembrance of our own. --- Amazon review of Why We Fish
