Piper Pelican Discovers Her Courage (and a Whole Lot More) is the story of young brown pelican whose parents tell her it is time for her to learn how to dive for fish. Piper is afraid that she will fail, get hurt diving, disappoint her parents, and get laughed at by her friends. When she finds she cannot teach herself, she asks her friends for help. They offer her suggestions, but none of them are possible because, as Hero the Heron helps her understand, Piper is a brown pelican and she is made to dive. Her courage to ask for help results in success and self-discovery. This is a beautifully photographed and fun children's story about courage, differences, and the possibilities of being a hero any day through kindness, friendship, and being yourself. The book is illustrated with original photographs of real birds in their natural environment. The author has researched bird behavior, and the information included in the text about these birds, their habits, and behavior is accurate.
