OverviewThis book examines the careers of two extraordinary political leaders-a Chinese and a Japanese-Liao Chengzhi (1908-1983) and Takasaki Tatsunosuke (1885-1964), who signed the Memorandum on Sino-Japanese Long-Term Comprehensive Trade in 1962. This accord-which is generally referred to as the LT Trade Agreement, an acronym of the co-signers-not only established semi-official economic relations between China and Japan, but also paved the way for their diplomatic normalization in 1972. The method of research is an in-depth analysis of primary sources, such as autobiographies and memoirs, and secondary sources, including scholarly and commercially-published books, as well as correspondence and interviews. The audience includes college students and scholars of Asian studies, history, international studies, and political science, as well as the general public who are interested in Asian history, political leaders, and world politics.
