He trained ordinands in South Africa from 1959 to 1979, when he became Principal of Northern College in Manchester and lecturer in New Testament at the University of Manchester. He has authored several books on the New Testament. In retirement, he is an Honorary Research Fellow in the University of Manchester and undertakes duties in the United Reformed Church.
