Reviews

In this unauthorized biography, author Jeffrey tells the story of five young men who formed a British rock band in the late sixties, calling themselves Pink Floyd, and gaining notice for their psychedelic sound, and elaborate stage shows. In 1967, they released two singles and then a first album called The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. One of the members, Roger Syd Barrett named the band Pink Floyd because he said it had been transmitted to him from a flying saucer. He left the band in 1968 due to emotional problems and was replaced by David Gilmour. A second album called A Saucerful of Secrets, was released that same year. Pink Floyd produced three more albums, and by the early 1970s, they had become an international sensation with a concept album called The Dark Side of the Moon, followed by another one in 1975 called Wish You Were Here. In 1985, the group broke up, but one member, Roger Waters, went on to release solo albums. In 2007, a year after Roger Syd Barrett died, a tribute concert was performed by past members of the group to honor the man who had been the soul of the band. Pink Floyd sold millions of records and is still remembered as one of the best rock groups of all time. The author has written an informative book that will capture the interests of readers wanting to know more about the history of rock bands and their members. Back material includes a timeline, discography, list of concert tours, a glossary, and chapter notes, reading list, and internet addresses. Photographs included., Children's Literature
