Overview

chmugglemeyer was a little boy who loved animals, especially unusual animals. He lived with his mother Mary, his father Sam, and his sister Rosalind near a big city. Schmugglemeyer wanted all animals, but especially the often mistreated, unusual ones, to have good, loving homes. If he could, he would take home any animal that needed him, but the unusual ones might give him a chance to encourage his family, friends and neighbors to appreciate them as he did.

Author Information

Dr. Robert Penner started telling Schmugglemeyer stories to his children in the 1970s, then revived them with his grandchildren in the 2000s. In the 2010s he decided to make them into story books, drawing on his medical background to elaborate on the animals' unique physical traits. Dr. Penner was born in New York and lived in Texas, Hawaii and Maryland bbefore settling in Chula Vista, California, where he lived for many years with his wife Suzy, to whose memory this book is dedicated. He has been in medical practice as an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) for over 50 years. He has taken care of people's eyes both in the Army, where he reached the rank of colonel, and in private practice. He has also served as a Commissioner and Chairman for the Port of San Diego, California. He loves reading and learning; enjoys golf, bowling, sailing and other sports; travels extensively; and delights in being with his family.
