Overview

It's a scorching summer in 1798, and rebellion erupts in Ireland. Elizabeth Downey watches as her husband goes to war and fears the dreadful consequences and certain revenge that will be exacted by the King's men. Nellie Crawford hears the screams of her elderly husband and granddaughter when rebels assail their home in Kildare Town, near the Curragh Plains. Dennis Downey leads his men to death, while Roger McGarry the rebel leader, after initial success, realizes the rebellion is going out with the tide and makes his plans to avoid the gallows.
