Text in German. So far, research has focused on the drawings, prints and art theory of Pietro Testa. Painting, on the other hand, received little attention. This publication examines for the first time the painterly oeuvre of an artist who worked in Rome and Lucca between 1628 and 1650. With the aim of repositioning the artist in the context of Roman Baroque painting, painting is not treated as an isolated phenomenon within Pietro Testa's oeuvre, but always related to his drawings and etchings, his art theory and his social environment for a long time At the time it was assumed that Testa was mainly active as a tracer of ancient works of art and emerged as the creator of etchings, while no more than 17 paintings were known to research, the 32 paintings compiled and commented on here show that painting originally had a much more important role in the The artist's work took more than previously thought.
