Overview

It's the first day of school, and excitement is in the air. But...who is Lucy? Why does she have so many names, and what is she saying? As children return to school, a new friend is curious what language Lucy speaks and where she is from. Throughout the day, the new friends huddle around the globe to see where they have family and friends, share their deliciously different lunches, and think about the puzzle pieces that make each of them unique. This upbeat and heartwarming story celebrates the diversity within us all, encouraging children to embrace every piece of their unique heritage. Perfect for young readers navigating a colorful multicultural world, Pieces of Me is a joyful reminder that our differences make us shine!

Author Information

Gwen Sung resides in New Jersey with her husband, two young kids, and a chill dog. Gwen is a product design leader by day and the creative mind behind a small business powerhouse by night. Gwen started her small business journey after becoming a mom and discovering her newfound passion and purpose - passing on her family's traditions and culture down to her kids. She began creating cultural activity kits for children to help families like hers celebrate their Chinese heritage. Growing up Taiwanese American, she often struggled with identity and finding where she belonged. Gwen's hope is to help raise the next generation of third culture kids to feel proud and empowered by their roots. Joanne Shi is a mama of three boys, licensed therapist, and an avid doodler. She wears many hats in life but one of her main goals is to spread wonder and hope through her artwork. She believes in the importance of being a light in an often very dark world and hopes her doodles can bring a smile to someone on the hardest days. When she's not doodling, you can find her chasing her boys around, listening and dancing to music, serving as a worship leader at her church or on the search for the next best place to eat. She is a California girl through and through, having grown up in SoCal and now living the Bay Area life.
