Overview

Over the last two decades, Gregor Wedekind has written extensively on Paul Klee and his time. Moving beyond art historical questions, the essays in this volume emphasize the intellectual and historical contexts of Klee's art, thereby deepening the understanding of modernism. Wedekind illuminates the artist's engagement with philosophy, literature and theory, as well as the significance of psychology, ethnology and contemporary political history for his work and thought. Gregor Wedekind ist Professor für Kunstgeschichte der Moderne und der Gegenwart an der Johannes-Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. Er wurde 995 an der TU Berlin mit einer Dissertation zu Paul Klees Inventionen promoviert und habilitierte dort 2 8 mit einer Schrift zu Strategien der Mimesis im Werk von Théodore Géricault. Forschungsschwerpunkte: Kunst und Theorie der (Klassischen) Moderne Europäische Romantik Geschichte und Theorie der Mimesis Künstlermythos Genieästhetik Stadt–Bild und urbaner Raum Kunst und Psychiatrie.
