Overview

There has been a rapid boom in the interest in the role of physical activity in health generally, and more recently in mental health. The government in both the UK and the US have commissioned research and produced reports which document the relationship between physical activity and mental health. The material in this book was commissioned by Somerset Health Authority to provide an updated overview of the case for exercise and mental health promotion. The authors present their findings and conclude each chapter with a list of statements entitled ""What we know"" and ""What we need to know"". The book should provide a useful resource for students, academics and professionals involved in studying, researching, developing, implementing and assessing physical activity programmes for those with mental health problems.
