Author Information

Barry has been involved with photography since he was 14 using a Kodak Instamatic 104 on a trip to England. He later became a US Navy photographer and attended most of the Navy's advanced photography courses. After getting his BA in computer science from University of California San Diego, Barry spent 10 years, from 1980 to 1990, doing software development and research at Apple. It was a great time to be at Apple, and Barry was able to be a part of Apple's growth from 500 employees to over 10,000. He took a leave of absence from Apple in 1990 to set up a darkroom and get back to his photography. He soon found himself teaching Photoshop workshops and the notes for those evolved into Barry's advanced Photoshop Artistry book series, the latest of these being this Photoshop 6 Artistry: Mastering the Digital Image from New Riders. His books are very popular with photographers and artists who are using Photoshop to create their final artwork. He also teaches in depth digital printmaking workshops from his studio in Corvallis, Oregon. Barry enjoys using his Photoshop darkroom techniques to print, show, and sell his own photography using Epson and Lightjet digital printers. He is currently working on a new book entitled Making the Digital Print which will cover all aspects of making the best commercial and art quality digital prints. Barry has given talks and workshops for the University of California Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara, the Photoshop Conference, Seybold Seminars, MacWorld, the Center for Creative Imaging, advertising agencies, design firms, photography stores and other organizations. His articles appear in Communication Arts and other photography magazines. Wendy Crumpler has been in advertising and design since 1980. She has worked in print, television, CD-Interactive, interactive television, and computer-based training. Prior to her discovery of the computer in 1981 and the Macintosh in 1986, she was an actress and teacher. She is the Author of two versions of her popular Photoshop, Painter and Illustrator Side-by-Side book, from Sybex. She has done production, illustration, design, and training for a variety of clients using many applications. She has worked for Angotti Thomas Hedge, Boardroom Reports, Deutsch Advertising, J.Walter Thompson, TBWA Advertising, Wechsler Design, Wells Rich Greene, Canon, Parke Davis, and AT&T. Sean Duggan is a photographer and digital artist who combines a traditional fine art photographic background with extensive experience in the field of digital graphics. In his imaging career, he has worked as a custom black & white darkroom technician, studio and location photographer, digital restoration artist, graphic designer, web developer, and educator. Equally at home with both low-tech and hi-tech approaches, his visual tool kit runs the gamut from primitive pinhole cameras to advanced digital techniques. In addition to providing consultation services and Photoshop training seminars, he creates illustrations and image design solutions for the web and print-based media. As an instructor for University of California, Santa Cruz Extension in Silicon Valley, he teaches regular classes on Photoshop and digital imaging for photographers. His web site can be seen at http://www.sdimagedesign.com.
