Overview

The word Photography comes from the Greek ""phos"" (light) and ""graphis"" (brush), and means ""to draw with light"". Photography was invented more than a century and a half ago, and since then, many innovations have taken place. Since the invention of Digital Photography, it has been increasingly improved, just like computing, at frighteningly fast speeds. A few years after its invention, the quality of digital photographs can already reach a quality almost equal to the best achieved with common films. In the current market, there are hundreds of digital camera options, from the simplest and cheapest to the most complex and sophisticated with higher prices. This is one of the factors that has hindered its popularization. The good news is that over the years, the trend is that, as with computing, prices will get lower and lower, even for the best models. Day after day, prices fall more and more. In conjunction with digital cameras, the market also has numerous editing programs, which have become increasingly popular. Some are paid, others are free, but one thing that cannot be denied is that the use of these programs has become increasingly easier. Nowadays, you don't need to be an expert to make simple corrections and edits to your photos. Many of the programs offered already do practically everything for you; it's just a matter of pressing a button or sliding an adjustment bar. A common question, with so many options on the market, is: which camera to buy? We have dozens of specifications presented by sellers, and sometimes we get a little lost amidst so many words that we don't even know exactly what they mean or what they are for. To better understand this whole jumble of confusing words, in the next lessons we will learn some of the main terms commonly used in digital photography.
