His doctoral dissertation was on subjectivity and selfhood in Schopenhauer's philosophical system. He is the author of several papers on Schopenhauer and his relation to Nietzsche's philosophy, as well as articles on Merleau-Ponty's philosophy. His post-doctoral research centered on the phenomenology of subjectivity.Ana Falcato is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Philosophy of the Nova University of Lisbon. At present, her main field of research concerns the dialogue between the South African Nobel Prize winner J. M. Coetzee and contemporary philosophy, as well as the importance of moral emotions from both a philosophical and literary standpoint.
