Dr. Olubunmi Atolani , (Associate Professor), is a Natural Products and Medicinal Chemist with many years of teaching and research experience in the University system. He obtained his PhD in Chemistry (2013) from the University of Ilorin, Ilorin Nigeria, investigating/synthesizing and characterising the anti-cancer, antioxidant and cytotoxicity potentials of the bioactives and derivatized principles from a novel medicinal African folklore using various techniques of chromatography, spectroscopy and spectrometry. He did part his doctoral work at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences, ICCBS, University of Karachi, Karachi and postdoctoral studies at Charité University of medicine, Berlin, Germany and COMSAT, Abbotabbad Pakistan. His current research interest besides bioactives exploration and spectroscopic characterization lies in medicinal Chemistry, Chemoinformatic applications of tools for drug discovery in cancer, diabetes, malaria and infection conditions as well as green cosmeceuticals exploration (from underutilised tropical plants). He is currently an investigator in various research groups and he has won many international, national and institutional competitive scientific research grants, awards such as Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft-Germany, UNESCO, TWAS-DFG, TWAS-CIIT, Seeding Labs Equipment grant (USA), European Association of Cancer Researcher (EACR), TETFund-IBR Raw Material grants etc. He has been a speaker at many national and international academic research forums. He has authored over one hundred (100) peer-reviewed journal articles (scopus-indexed majority), academic books, several book chapters and delivered numerous plenaries and conference keynote addresses. He is a respected seasoned reviewer to many reputable Journals in Nature, Elsevier, Springer, Taylor and Francis, Wiley etc. He was the pioneer managing editor of Annals of Science and Technology published by De Gruyter/SCIENDO in Europe and an editorial board member of various international scientific journals. His research outputs and acumen has been presented in many local and international research scientific forums in Nigeria, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Ghana, South Africa, Gambia, Niger Republic, Kenya and United State of America (USA) etc. He is an external examiner and distinguished research assessor at University of KwaZulu Natal, UKZN, South Africa, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, CPUT, South Africa, National Research Fund, Mexico, National Research Fund, South Africa among others. He is the Desk Officer of three universities in Asia and Africa and Contact person for some University’ partners in Brazil, Germany and Pakistan. He is a member of reputable national and international professional and academic bodies such as American Chemical Society (ACS), European Association of Cancer Researcher (EACR), Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), Institute of Chartered Chemist of Nigeria, (ICCON), Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), Nigerian Young Academy (NYA) etc. He is currently a faculty at the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria where he passionately supervises both undergraduate and postgraduate students. As a dynamic researcher and frontiers of knowledge, he seeks to contribute optimally solving global issues for the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He was an Assistant Director at the Centre for International Education (CIE), and currently the Deputy Director (Research), at the Centre for Research Development and In-House Training (CREDIT) both at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. He is the Coordinator of the African Centre for Herbal Research, Ilorin (ACHRI).
