OverviewIn this phytochemical characterization of Cinnamomum malabatrum seeds for their biological properties. The preliminary phytochemical evaluation of Cinnamomum malabatrum leaves revealed the presence of alkaloids, volatile oils, phenolic compounds, tannins and triterpinoids. The extract was screened to analyse the antimicrobial and antioxidant activity; thus the extract exhibits an immense remarkable effect. The extract showed the presence of the total alkaloid content by comparing with the standard strychnine hydrochloride in UV-Vis spectrophotometric method. The extract inhibits thye growth of E.coli and S.aureus and the showed the evidence for antimicrobial activity. The extract gives a moderate IC50 values which implies that the extract has antioxidant property. In characterisation of the specific compound activity of Cinnamomum malabatrum, we have to perform various chromatographic techniques followed with other instrumental methods in structural elucidations.
