Overview

"The Belgian artist Peter Buggenhout (b. 1963, Dendermonde, lives and works in Ghent) questions the status of sculpture with sculptures and installations that are made with materials that refer to life and transiency. The sculptures are made of intestines of animals, blood, dust and hair, but the artist also uses clay and recycled wood. Because of their structure and texture, the works transcend the familiar and the recognisable. This is the first monograph of one of the most talented Flemish artists/sculptors with international standing, and is part of a very important year for Peter Buggenhout: he has an exposition in the Herzliya Museum in Tel Aviv (The blind leading the blind, 6th December 2008 - 16th May 2009) and his work will also be part of a prestigious exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery (Shape of things to come: New Sculpture) in September. Moreover, his work is selected by Axel Vervoordt to be displayed at ""la Biennale di Venezia"" Buggenhout creates installations/sculptures that seem to fall apart or stick together, organisms in transition and this publication showcases a fantastic selection of his work. SELLING POINTS: This book reviews the original and unique work of Peter Buggenhout, a Belgian designer who is making waves on the contemporary art scene ILLUSTRATIONS 120 colour"
