Overview"The ""fathers of modernity"" influenced the early artistic work of Peter August Böckstiegel (1889-1951), who was inspired by Van Gogh's ""blazing flaming script"", the ""fairytale silence"" of Gauguin's jungle scenes, and Munch's ""Nordic world of spirits"" expressed in his landscapes, rural scenes, portraits, still lifes, and nudes. Although Böckstiegel spent formative years in Dresden, he saw himself primarily as a Westphalian expressionist whose connection to his rural home, Werther near Bielefeld, remained throughout his life and was also reflected in his works. His multifaceted artistic work ranges from a large number of paintings, watercolors, drawings, and prints to mosaics, window pictures, and sculptures."
