Pet Peeves

Overview

Bobbie's life is going nowhere fast. She's working at a bar, wanting to play music but never having the time or energy. The only bright spot is her dog - always cheerful, always cuddly, and always there for her. As the relentless day-in, day-out of work piles up, music and roommates and social plans begin to seem less and less important as Bobbie struggles to make rent and have any time to be creative. The only thing she has time for outside her job is her dog... and her dog is going to do everything he can to keep it that way. This debut solo graphic novel from breakout author Nicole Goux explores the struggles of a young artist - haunted not only by debt and society, but by more sinister (though adorable) canine forces.

Reviews

"""Goux's curvy, fluid art wiggles around the page as the narrative slithers between real life and an eerie otherworld of dreams, nightmares, and fantasies. Sincere emotion and eye-catching visuals."" --Publishers Weekly ""Sublime in composition and subtly communicative in message, Pet Peeves is a visual essay on creative endeavour and the nature of our own self-destructive impulses that will no doubt strike a familiar chord with many readers."" --Broken Frontier ""Visually electric. A story about boiling over. A future dropped and fractured. Nicole Goux is offering to hurt you. You should accept."" --Doom Rocket"

F*ck Off Squad is a beautifully observed character piece that balances an appealingly in-yer-face attitude with genuine moments of true pathos. Goux's pages are constantly structured to exploit the unique properties of the form to further narrative themes and to immerse the readership in the characters' experiences. -- Broken Frontier Nicole Goux is a startlingly talented illustrator. With a focus on femininity and women-centric stories, Goux is a talented world-builder with a distinct style. -- Women Write about Comics
