"In the 1500s, when Francisco Pizarro ventured into western South America to conquer the Inca empire, he was accompanied by 180 soldiers and 27 horses. The Spanish word ""Paso"" translates to both ""gait"" and ""gentle,"" perfectly capturing the exceptional qualities of this breed. Since their introduction to the United States in the 1950s, there are now approximately 11,500 registered Peruvian Pasos in the country. In recent years, the Peruvian Paso has garnered significant interest and recognition."
