OverviewThe idea of composing this book stems from the need of understanding the environmental behavior of persistent organics pollutants (POPs) on a global scale. In recent decades, with the rapid economic development in Asia, the effects of various persistent pollutants on the ecosystem and human health are causing increasing concerns among scientists and administrators in the region and beyond. However, research on POPs in Asia has been in general lagged behind those in Europe and North America. Data are limited and with a wide range of quality. In addition, they are scattered among numerous journals and documents, many of which are in native languages of their own countries. The current knowledge on the sources, distributions, transport, and fates of selected POPs from rapidly developing regions of Asia are put together.
