Jackson, Ill, P.E., F ASCE, is a Civil Engineering graduate of the University of Toledo. Birdel began his writing career during the recent Covid epidemic producing three memoirs of his family from 1832 to the 1960s which include numerous historical milestones with photos.Mr. Jackson began his engineering career with the American Bridge Division of US Steel followed by career experiences with Washington DC government, the Environmental Protection Agency, and General Electric before embarking on a career as an engineering consultant.Birdel established the civil engineering firm of B&E Jackson Engineers to provide consulting services for infrastructure, architecture, and planning services throughout the southeast and Midwest.He is an active STEM advocate with the 100 Black Men of Atlanta and to primary, secondary, and post-secondary students.Birdel served as an adjunct professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Evansville. He is a member of the UT College of Engineering Industrial Advisory Board and School of Civil Engineering's Industrial Advisory Board. He earned a master's degree in civil engineering from The Georgia Institute of Technology and is an emeritus member of the School of Civil Engineering Advisory Board.He was selected by the University of Toledo to serve two two-year terms as one of 3 National trustees to assist with the university's growth and direction. Birdel established the Jackson-Davis Foundation in 2000 and has awarded 54 scholarships to Black Civil Engineering students enrolled in the Dual Degree Engineering Program (DDEP) at Clark Atlanta University.Mr. Jackson endowed the Jackson-Davis Foundation Civil Engineering Incentive Scholarship at the University of Toledo, www.jackson-davisfdn.com.
