OverviewPeripatetic is a learned term, derived from the Latin peripateticus, a loan from the Greek peripatetikós, derived from perípatos, meaning ""walk."" Therefore, it refers to something that happens or is done while walking. Aristotle's school, known as the Peripatetic School, was held in a covered colonnade, under which the master strolled with his disciples, teaching and discussing while walking. The title of this anthology, however, has more to do with the term's feminine counterpart, which for the protagonists carries the invariable meaning of prostitute, seducer, public woman, entertainer and so on. Promenaders then. Each of them with her own personality, her joys, her depressions, and her dreams. To be respected, because they are free of hypocrisy in a society that has instead made hypocrisy its banner.
