OverviewThe pension problems faced by civilian and non-uniformed personnel working within the Colombian military forces and the national police force is paradoxical, considering that these personnel are a vital part of the mission of the Public Force in supporting and advising on issues of public security and national defence throughout the country. After the end of the pension exception regime governed by Decree 1214 of 1990, which allowed civil servants to retire with twenty years of service and with factors that totally replaced the monthly allowance they had been earning in activity, we are now moving on to the conditions of the general pension system set out in Law 100 of 1993, which public servants who joined the Defence Sector after 1 April 1994, the date on which this Law came into force, will have to face.
