OverviewThe rock art of the Americas was produced at very different times and by different cultures, both by hunter-gatherers, fishermen and by farmers from village or state societies. Each group can be characterised by diverse styles and techniques. The function of rock art depended on religious, political or social concerns that referred to a particular context and time. Since the 1990s, she has led research projects on the cultures of north-central and western Mexico, in particular in the field of rock art. ; Philippe Costa is an archaeologist specializing in Central America and an associate researcher at the Center for Mexican and Central American Studies.
