Overview

Description Pease Pudding Hot is set in a small Northern Town in the nineteen sixties to seventies when the stigma attached to mental illness was far stronger than it is today. Joe Sharp is a sufferer. His life is one that's constantly and continually threatened by the strange thoughts, paranoia and voices in his head, which persecute him and pretty much take over his every action. Joe is trapped in a world of fear, anxiety and bewilderment and often finds himself in many horrifying situations. Because of Joe's illness people often jump to the wrong conclusion about him. Upon his Mother's death Joe's life becomes increasingly difficult. His Father's problems with the drink take a severe turn for the worst when he takes up with Veronica Stracken a harsh woman who like his father has no insight or understanding into Joe's condition and doesn't particularly want any. Joe's little sister Wendy is left almost entirely in his care however due to Joe's condition and his father's neglect Wendy is placed in a children's home.Due to dramatic events Joe is sectioned in a psychiatric hospital where he is diagnosed as been a sufferer of schizophrenia. After many experiences Joe's condition improves he 'escapes' from the hospital and lives rough. But his greatest wish is to be reunited with his sister.
